Barbara Neri created the above installation "Homage to our Dancing Ancestors" for UM Dance Department's "Dancing at 100" celebration. Neri's mixed media installation was inspired by archival photographs of early UM dancers in the Bentley Historical Library on campus. The installation consisted of recreations of their guazy costumes and emphera surrounding hand colored photo collages focusing on closeup details from the old photographs. The installation was part of a larger site specific work choreographed and directed by Professor of Dance Jessica Fogel. The performance event happened on June 13th and June 14, 2009 and began in the Chemistry Building on UM's Ann Arbor, MI campus. The Chem building was the site of the old Barbour Gymnasium where dance began on campus. The performance and audience then traveled to the Dance Building (site of the current dept and location of Neri's Installation) and ended on North Campus.
