A carefully produced DVD of this "beautifully executed show" performed by its creator Barbara Neri in Manhattan at The Mazer Theater on August 21, 2005 as part of the NY international Fringe Festival. Selected because it is as an outstanding and definitive performance of the groundbreaking script and a seamless one-camera shot. Digital audio and video were professionally edited post-production and the DVD has play movie / scene selection options and five minute chapter markers for easy navigation. SYNOPSIS

Upon awakening from a mysterious dream in 1995, contemporary artist Barbara Neri began reading the poetry and researching the life and times of Victorian poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861). Neri embarked upon what she eventually called The EBB Project: a synergy of creative processes in performance, visual art and writing.

Focused on EBB's 44 Sonnets from the Portuguese, Neri became a published Barrett Browning scholar. In 2002 her performance portrait of Elizabeth emerged from the project. Called The Consolation of Poetry, in the performance Neri becomes the poet. This becoming is more complex than it seems and the many voices, speaking across time in monologue and dialogue both as video and live personas, reveal there is much to be considered.

Assisted by a dresser, Neri is adorned in beautiful, carefully researched reproductions of Elizabeth's mid Victorian garments. Along the way she performs a re-visioning performance of "Sonnet 43." EBB's penultimate love sonnet with its oft-quoted opening line ("How do I love thee? Let me count the ways") has been used to the point of derision. With the record set straight, the becoming is completed, and Elizabeth is present offering the consolation and wisdom of her life and work. Total running time: 1:40
